Remotion Agent Skills: get Claude Code to build React videos the right way

TL;DR

Remotion — the library for making videos with React — publishes official Agent Skills for Claude Code, Codex and Cursor. They guide the agent from project setup and animation to captions and rendering, so results follow Remotion conventions.

Remotion is a library for making video with React: each frame is a component, you use code to create animations and render to video. The hard part is that AI agents often write Remotion code that isn't quite right (animation, timing, rendering). That's why Remotion has official Agent Skills for Claude Code, Codex and Cursor: skills that guide the agent from creating a project through animation and captions to rendering, so results follow Remotion's conventions.

Why use skills instead of just asking the agent?

  • Remotion has its own conventions (for example how animation is driven by frame); without guidance an agent easily writes code that runs but isn't done the right way.
  • Skills gather best practices in one place and only load when needed, so they don't bloat context.
  • The create → adjust → render workflow is standardised, giving consistent results across runs.

Examples of what you can make

  • An intro video with a logo and animated text.
  • Statistics videos from real data (charts updating with the figures).
  • Videos with automatic captions.
  • Geographic explainers with maps and routes.

An important licensing note

Remotion is free for individuals and small teams, but companies above a certain threshold need to buy a licence. Read the terms on Remotion's site before commercial use. This is a notable difference to weigh when choosing a tool.

Choosing a tool

SituationSuggestion
The team knows React and wants to reuse componentsRemotion
You want plain HTML and an Apache-2.0 licenceConsider HyperFrames
You only need web animation, no video exportA web animation library (see the post classifying motion graphics repos)

How to apply it

  • React devs: start with /remotion-create and a 10–15 second video.
  • Tech Lead: check the licence with legal before using it in a commercial product.
  • Marketing/PM: real data + templates make recurring videos (monthly reports, recaps) faster than doing them by hand.
